Deploying a New Computer

๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ First Steps


  1. Unbox and Assemble: Physically unbox and set up the computer.
  2. Initial Boot-Up:
    • Avoid connecting to a Microsoft account.
    • Select “Domain Join Instead” (you might need to click “Sign-in Options” to find it).
  3. Create User Account:
    • Username:ย  Owner
    • Password:ย  (simple password)
    • This is a staging account for setup purposes.
  4. Complete Setup:
    • Follow prompts and accept defaults to reach the desktop.
  5. Launch Microsoft Edge:
    • Accept all defaults.
    • No need to sign in with Microsoft or Google accounts at this stage.ย

๐Ÿ“ง Provide Information

Please email the following details to support@bntwk.com:
  • Computer Name:
    • Use a person’s name or a descriptive term (e.g., frontdesk2, warehouse).
    • This can be changed later if necessary.
  • Initial User
    • Let us know the password you used for the Owner account
  • Actual User Name:
    • Provide the name of the person using this computer.
    • Include the user’s email address.
    • For generic users, specify the role or position.

๐Ÿ”„ New vs. Replacement Computer

๐Ÿ†• Brand New Computer

  • Specify which applications to install.
  • Indicate any printers to add and which should be the default.
  • Let us know if there will be any peripherals attached to this PC.

OR

๐Ÿ” Transferring from an Old Computer

  • Set up the new computer so it’s online simultaneously with the old one.
  • Inform us if data transfer is needed and provide the old computer’s name.
  • By default, we’ll transfer:
    • Desktop
    • Documents
    • Pictures
    • Downloads
    • Music
    • Videos
  • Let us know about any specific applications or data to transfer.
  • We’ll attempt to set up the same printers and peripherals.

  • ย Licenses:
    • Inform us of any special licenses required for business applications.
    • If the user has a Microsoft 365 Business Premium license, we’ll install and configure the desktop applications.
  • OneDrive:
    • For users with Office 365 licenses including OneDrive, we’ll configure their account to back up:
      • Desktop
      • Documents
      • Pictures
